I am going through the book of Colossians with two I am going through the book of Colossians with two different groups right now.  Sunday I get to share with teen girls in our discipleship program and Wednesday I get to hang out with a women’s Bible study.  The biggest blessing to me has been getting to sit and hear wisdom spoken by women of all ages.  We need each other no matter how many years before us and how many years are behind us. We benefit from mutual encouragement, mutual affection, and lifting each other up in prayer. The Body of Christ thrives when multigenerational women are walking with the Lord, are yielded to His Spirit, and are encouraging others to do the same. When we live out our relationship with God in a pe When we live out our relationship with God in a personal way then it becomes influential. The first to be influenced are those in our own homes. We can talk about how much we value God's Word and we can show it by letting them see us reading it. They need both our words and actions. We can talk about how to ask for forgiveness and we can demonstrate it when we've messed up. They need both our words and actions. The more personal we make our identity in Christ, our joy in the Gospel, and our faithfulness in prayer, the more we can influence those in our own home to follow Him. #intentionalparenting #intentionaldiscipleship #showandshare #delightanddefend #personalbeforeinfluential

What do you focus on when you study? Bible study What do you focus on when you study? Bible study is meant for transformation. When I focus on these three big ideas I've experienced transformation. I understand about God's character and can worship Him in a more intimate way. I understand who I am in Christ and can praise God for the work that He's done in my life. I learn specific ways to follow Him and I'm doing so am conformed to the image of Christ. I wanted to teach my kids these truths too and this is just part of the EVENT Method, which is how we study the Bible in our home. Like to go straight to application? These are all ways our brains might be trained to interact with God's Word. My name is Michelle and I enjoy teaching people how to study the Bible. It all started with my own children and my desire to teach them the principles of inductive Bible study. Now I teach my own method, called the EVENT Method, which seeks to give teens and women good Bible study skills. I want to train my kid's brains so that their first thought is, "I wonder what the Bible has to say on that?" If that's something you want for the youth in your life you're in the right place. I was driving home and admiring the clouds buildin I was driving home and admiring the clouds building up to the north and this song was on the radio. It saddened me because Charlie had his future days taken from him. And it encourages me because I still have days left to honor the Lord with. I have one more day to praise the Lord. To serve Him well. And right now so do you. May we "number our days that we may present to You a heart of wisdom". Psalm 90:12 May we live this one life well, no matter how brief it is.

Yet…. It's a powerful word.  I'm not organized Yet…. It's a powerful word.  I'm not organized….yet. I'm not consistent with exercise…yet. I'm not a generous person…yet. Yet implies growth is possible and expected.  Yet demonstrates hope that growth is going to come.  Think about it from a theological perspective: I'm not free from the power of sin…yet. I'm not face to face with Jesus…yet. I'm not home…yet. Yet is a powerful word. What's your “yet” today? "Oh yes, you're in that stage," my mentor said. "Oh yes, you're in that stage," my mentor said. Maybe you can relate? It's the stage where self interests, hormones, a developing pre-frontal cortex, and love of self collide. It's actually gotten better, however sometimes when things are calm is the best time to do direct instruction. That way no one feels singled out. Ultimately the conflict in our home was coming from people wanting their way, oversensitiveness, and not understanding that just letting some things slide is a life skill. When I was recommended this book, The Peacemaker: Student Edition by Ken Sande and Kevin Johnson I knew it was a must read. It didn't disappoint. It's accessible for students and just as convicting for me. We are going to make this a part of our morning time in our homeschool. A sweet friend gifted me The Young Peacemaker by Charlotte Sande for my younger child. I don't know if conflict is in your home. You might be dealing with some other challenge. I do know that everytime I've prayed for wisdom according to James 1:5 the Lord has been faithful. I'm grateful for His answers through His Word and His people. I pray the same for you. Communication changes over time are fascinating. Communication changes over time are fascinating. First, it all had to be face-to-face or by a messenger. Then the mail system helped speed up the exchange of letters. Next, came telegrams and now we have instant messaging, texts and I'll mention phone calls even though many dread those🫣. I find an area I'm constantly trying to grow in is communication. Whether it's not interrupting, being present when I'm listening, or how to have a difficult conversation, I find there's usually some communication skill I can develop or improve at. What are your tips for good communication? I know....a bit intense before a three day weekend I know....a bit intense before a three day weekend🫣 but still on my heart so on to you it goes! I was gifted this beautiful illustrated version of The Hiding Place for my birthday and was able to read it this summer. My advice? Get this one and then another copy you are comfortable annotating. If you're a note-taker like me, you're definitely going to want to highlight and mark. I've been thinking a lot about love this summer and how to serve well. This book is a wonderful example of love applied and lived out. I've been concentrating on 2 Timothy 1:7, 1 Corinthians 13, and a few others. The Hiding Place was a practical example of how to live love out well and how to confess when we aren't. I'm grateful Corrie Ten Boom shared her story with us. Have you read it? It can be tempting to skim over passages or verses because we've interacted with them before. The key is to be diligent to approach the text with a teachable spirit, ready to learn how to apply it. 🔎I love that no matter how much we search Scrip 🔎I love that no matter how much we search Scripture, we are going to discover something new, find a relevant way to apply it to our current season, and be in awe of the depth of God’s inspired Word.  In week nine of God’s Loyal Love: A Nine Week Study in Ruth for Teen Girls, the young ladies will search the entire book of Ruth for the blessings that people spoke to one another. As I was preparing for a teaching I found one I missed! It just illustrates again how important it is to re-read and is a skill I seek to teach my own kids and those young women I get to teach at my church.  Here’s to re-reading, finding things we miss, and fresh discoveries in His Word! ✨️P.S. Did I mention I'm usually the target?🎯😆 Whe Did I mention I'm usually the target?🎯😆 When I sit down to study a passage, I like to read the entire chapter first a few times (and entire book if it's a shorter one). Then go back and take it chunks at a time. It also helps my brain to focus better if I have a place to write down my questions and what stands out to me. My alternate cover would definitely include feathers. 🪶🪶 Psalm 91:4 has become a favorite and I love how the Lord loves us tenderly and protectively by taking us under His wing. It is actually a suggested memory verse because of the idea of covering with the kinsman-redeemer. The very visual of hesed-God's loyal love-is that of a mother bird persevering through trials to shield her baby birds.
