Launch day is fast approaching! My sweet friend, Abby, offered to minister to me by taking pictures of my soon to be released book. Her skill far surpasses mine and I'm thankful that she chose to share it with me and I get to share it with you! Tomorrow I meet with my publisher to discuss the upcoming launch of God's Loyal Love: A Nine Week Study in Ruth that will be available at any book retailer at the end of July. Definitely woke up after that! I would go again though. A few verses I’m meditating on right now are Psalm 92:1-2 and 4. They say: 1. It is good to give thanks to the Lord And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; 2. To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning And Your faithfulness by night, 4. For You, O Lord, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands. When I read this I’m reminded about how good it is to start the day with acknowledging the Lord and end the day in the same way.  I can give thanks to the Lord for a new day and ask that I abide in Him throughout the circumstances that come my way. I can also sing His praises at night because He has been faithful. Maybe things haven’t gone how I hoped, but I know He is still with me.  He is worthy of praise. In the midst of my time and schedule assessment I received some good heart checks. 💙 Am I focused on control or honest assessment? 💙 Am I relying on the Lord to be my refreshment or falling into temporary coping mechanisms? 💙 Am I falling into the trap of thinking my schedule has to be free from any stress whatsoever in order to be at rest and peace? I'm so grateful the Lord brings along timely reminders and messages. He is faithful and really does give us wisdom when we ask Him (James 1:5). Got to love those root words! It does make so much sense though. If they are priorities then I should be focusing on getting to those first. As a mom juggling all the things too, I can assure you that a time audit was just what I needed to understand exactly where my time has been going. Now that I know where my time is going, I can pray about what my priorities are and how to schedule them. I can intentionally let go of some things that aren’t bad, but aren’t what I should be focusing on right now. The pictures in my post are all of my brain dump on a scratch piece of paper, but I’ve made a much more organized audit sheet that you can use for yourself. In 2021, I sought to find a way to teach my kids how to read the Bible verse by verse and go through the three main phases of inductive Bible study. I wanted it to be a conversational tool and something we could easily incorporate in our morning routine. It is now known as the EVENT Method.  What started out as a way to disciple my kids, grew into a Bible study used with the high school girls at my church, now is here in my hands, and soon will go out to others. It’s my prayer that this study is used as a stepping stone to biblical literacy and then transformation for the next generation as they engage with Scripture. First step is awareness, right?! As it became more and more clear I needed to reassess my schedule, a few reminders made their way to me and the message was loud and clear: I need to be careful with my time. This is not a new lesson for me, it's just hitting different now that two out of three of my kids are in the tween and teen stage. I'll share a few tips I've been reminded of and have learned, but I'd love to hear what's working for you! How do you manage and/or protect your schedule? Two summers ago I was prepping a study in Ruth for a group of high school girls to go through in a discipleship program. That study became God’s Loyal Love: A Nine Week Study in Ruth for Teen Girls and is now available as an eBook today! He also immediately changed when he got home😂 Fortunately it was in our chiropractor's office and not many people were there so this wasn't a scarring experience for him and he rolled with it. However, we are definitely entering the stage of public image mattering so the real parenting lesson here is sometimes even though I am excited, they are not. And what I find amusing they don't. Day by day we are able to build a spiritual legacy of faith for our children. I appreciate how in 2 Timothy, chapter 3, Paul encourages Timothy to “continue in the things that he has learned and become convinced of.” There are no guarantees that our children will continue in the things they have learned. Ultimately it is their choice to carry on in their convictions. However, if we don’t try to bring them up in truth then there is nothing for them to carry on in other than what they piece together themselves from the world.  Your efforts matter. You are doing good and hard work by discipling your children.   Need some help getting into the groove of family Bible reading with your teens? Believe it or not these are the same plant both grown from cuttings from the same parent plant. The difference is that one is getting enough sun and the other isn’t.  The big, beautiful, purple one with small flowers is located outside. The scrawny, leggy, green one is located inside. Apparently, even next to the window there is not enough light for it. It still lives and it does grow, but nothing as productive as its counterpart located outside where sun is abundant. Here comes the metaphor. I think this is so representative of times in my life where I have had intentional study and intake of the Word of God versus times where I haven’t. There are all sorts of valid seasons in my life where my engagement with God’s Word has looked different and looked like less. Times of deep emotional pain, times during the newborn season where everything is topsy turvy, and other times where I had been so out of intentional study I just didn’t know how to get back into it.  The good news about those times is that there was still growth, still some signs of life. I was struggling, but I wasn’t alone and what I did take in, by God’s grace, was enough to carry me through. Fortunately those seasons usually come to an end, whether it be through adjusting to a new, difficult way of life, like in the case of losing a loved one or a life changing diagnosis. Or the season gradually fades into a new one and we find ourselves with a different schedule and more time and energy. I’m in an outside, sun-loving, flower-producing kind of time right now. I’m grateful for it. I’ve also been in the small, leggy, reaching-toward-the-light season too and I know I can be one life-change away from it again. If that’s you, I want to encourage you to keep reaching and abiding in the Lord who loves you and sees you. Reach toward your community of believers who can help lift you up in prayer and maybe even be used by God to transplant you into a place where you get more sun. Eventually the color will come back, the flowers will come, and in the midst of some scars, you can look back on the season of struggle and praise God that He brought you through it by His grace and He still carries you today.

I had sent them ahead in a huff of anger trying my best not to take it out on the minivan doors. A sweet friend greeted me and asked how I looked so put together. Ah–the power of a belt, I thought. It can pull a simple tee and jeans together but for how the morning went, maybe it was pulling me together too. Because it had been a morning and it was anything but resolved.  What started as a normal day quickly dissolved into tears and raised voices. The result? Teen and mother - two fighters both in their respective corners trying to figure out what just happened and where to go from here.  Do we continue the fight with metaphorical uppercuts, jabs, and land the right hook? Or do we take the gloves off, try to understand where the other is coming from, and tend to each other’s wounds? A dab to the eye here. A stitch to the lip there. Well timed and well chosen words to cover it all. “I was wrong. I don’t even know what I was thinking. I’m sorry.” It was the most mature apology I’ve ever received from my child.  “I’m sorry I reacted in anger and raised my voice. Will you forgive me?” Then comes the final decision. We stand on opposing sides united by the referee whose name is forgiveness. One hand each is thrust into the air - both declared the victors. Have you ever been there with your children? Have you ever prayed that the Lord would help you abide and deliver you all at the same time?!  Parenting is no easy road. Each stage has its own unique glories and challenges. May we abide in our Lord through them all and seek  Him for wisdom as we navigate what each day holds. #parentingteens #quicktolisten #forgiveness #parentinglife #christianparenting #abide

Raise your hand if implimenting spiritual disciplines can be challenging for you too! These past three months I've been challenged in my own life to lean into them more and more. While they have been difficult, it has been worth it. The first was a type of fasting. Because of an autoimmune condition I'm not doing a total fast right now but I did do one on desserts. I sure found out real quickly how dependent on them I had gotten and what a hold all of that sugar had on me. I find when I completely stop something I can accurately assess my relationship with it. Next was Bible study. If I can find time to scroll, I can find time to spend in God's Word. Last, was learning to share the gospel. My son and I participated in an evangelism class at our church and I chose to take it because I didn't want to😬 the disciplines I avoid are usually the ones I need the most and this was it. I can now take the gospel from my head and articulate it well with my lips. I feel much more confident in sharing the good news. I mean that statement in two ways. First, connection with your *kids* doesn’t have to be over just because the holiday is. In my experience, parents usually to make the holidays special. We will say no to events so we can keep our kids home for time together, we will plan special activities, and we will do fun things just because we can. We can still do all of those things even without a holiday. As a matter of fact, I would encourage us all to. Say no to a crazy schedule, say yes to time together. Second, *connecting with God’s Word* doesn’t have to be over just because the holiday is. I actually think we can use the end of the holiday to spur us on in our spiritual disciplines. For example: 🎉We just celebrated the resurrection. What happened after the resurrection? Do I know what Jesus did after He rose from the dead? I could read the end of each gospel to find out. 📚We spent the day recounting how our faith is not in vain because of the resurrection. Can I explain my convictions to someone else? Can I defend the faith that I have with logic and proof? I could check out some books that teach me how to defend and articulate my faith. 📣We spent the day talking about how the resurrection is a part of the Gospel. Do I know how to confidently and clearly share my faith in a way that is easily understood by others? Can I lead someone through the points of the Gospel in a way that they can trust Jesus too? If not, I could take an evangelism class. The celebration of the resurrection has passed based on the date on the calendar. However, what we celebrate and remember can be carried on both in our life, and with our kids. All of these examples can be shared with our children so that they celebrate the resurrection year long too.  Follow for more intentional ways to bring God's Word into your family's daily life. #discipleship #christianliving #biblestudy #resurrection #connect #christianparenting

I find the contrast in this verse so striking. The Jews did not want to defile themselves for Passover, yet they were actively involved in plotting against Jesus, creating mock trials, and cheering to release a criminal. They wanted to keep the rules for Passover yet were in the process of crucifying the Lamb of God.  They missed the coming of the Messiah because they were expecting a conquering king and not a humble servant who would sacrifice His life for the entire world. And sacrifice He did. Through that sacrifice He paid the penalty for our sins - my sins - and paved a way for relationship with God.  I’m grateful for the work Jesus did on the cross and that He rose from the grave, victorious over sin and death. I pray that in my own life, I am not blinded by expectations, presuppositions, and my own flesh to the point I miss what Christ is doing in my life through His Word or the circumstances and people around me.  Father - “may the hearts of those of us in Christ be enlightened, so that we would know what is the hope of Your calling, what are the riches of glory of Your inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe.”  May we, who are in Christ, be intentional about finding opportunities to proclaim your gospel with family and friends who have not trusted in Jesus yet for eternal life. And may they be receptive and responsive to the good news of forgiveness and relationship with You. ~Amen *based on Ephesians 1: 18-19 #goodfriday #easter2025 #itisfinished #resurrection #easterweekend #thecross
