…it's all in His power!  Sometimes I wish the pro …it's all in His power!  Sometimes I wish the process of putting off the old man and putting on the new was as easy as swapping shirts but that has not been my experience.  For a good while I used to strive by my own power thinking I could self-discipline and will power my way to holiness.  Then I discovered it's really in the quiet surrender to His Spirit, the daily discipline of reading His Word, and meeting with others that transformation started to happen.  In Colossians 3, Paul gives instructions on what to put off and what to put on. I think we find the how in verses 15-17.  They say,  “15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.  16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness to in your hearts to God.  17 Whatever you do in Word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” There is a role we have in the putting off and putting on and it is one of letting His peace rule in our hearts and letting His Word dwell within us. As we yield to His Spirit and walk in a manner worthy of Him, we begin to look like Him more and more. It's according to His power-not ourselves. 🙌So much to praise God for! Don't you love hearing 🙌So much to praise God for! Don't you love hearing these teens lift their voices and hearts up to Him? For the past nine weeks we studied Colossians in our Wednesday night women's study and our Sunday night teen discipleship time. For many this was the first time they studied the Bible inductively through the EVENT Method and the first time through Colossians. It was amazing hearing about what these women and teens were learning from God's Word. And I always am in awe when we give people the tools to study God's Word on their own, how their natural curiosity takes over and their face lights up when they share what they've learned.  I'm so thankful I got to take this journey with them and learn alongside them. 🩵🧡🩵 ✨️Inductive Bible study is my passion and my hope is to make it as delightful and approachable as possible. Started my day reading about prayer in the book of Started my day reading about prayer in the book of Colossians and it hasn't stopped yet. It struck me how Epiphras is described as laboring earnestly for the Colossians in prayer. The Greek word for the phrase "laboring earnestly" is agonizomai. The root means to struggle or strive as if in an athletic contest or warfare. Or to contend with an adversary. That is how Epiphras is praying for His brothers and sisters in Christ. Here's the recap: Ingredients: Store bought donut Here's the recap: Ingredients: Store bought donut holes Brown melting wafers  Fall sprinkles Pretzel sticks (snapped in half) Melt the wafers according to the package directions.  Dip top part of donut in melted chocolate Dip that same part in the sprinkles Stick one of the pretzel stick halves in the top center It's such a great treat to make when you want to spend time with your kids in the kitchen but you may not be able to commit an hour or so. We called it "the big hole" I heard it said it's We called it "the big hole" I heard it said it's where they dug a freeway from. I can neither confirm nor deny that. All I know is it was big. It seemed miles in circumstance but I was also 12ish so maybe it all seemed big at that point. And down she went....carried away on her bike. It really is a great visual of how we can easily be carried away-held captive-by falsehoods. The answer is to guard your heart and mind with the Word. This is exactly what my friend told me to do when I get stuck on a chunk of Scripture. Read above, read below. Look for repeated words and phrases. Look for what you know for certain about the audience or group being spoken of. And if all else fails call in a life-line in the form of someone who can help you think. This is exactly what the Body of Christ is for! To help each other correctly handle His Word. We serve a God who wants to be known and can be known. The best way to be ready for counterfeit is to kno The best way to be ready for counterfeit is to know the truth.  Colossians 1:15-20 is a powerhouse of truth statements about Jesus. The entire Bible is….we know this. It's a great passage to memorize and have at the ready during worldview conversations. It's also a great one to take your kids through to make sure they understand the answers to questions like: ✨️ What does it mean that Jesus is the image of the invisible God? ✨️ How could Jesus be both firstborn of creation and the dead? ✨️ Who or what are the thrones, rulers, powers, and authorities? These verses, when rightly understood, are our tool to identifying counterfeit ideas of Jesus. I'm thankful they are just as true now as they were in Paul's time.  📖I love digging into God's Word. And I want to model and teach how to do that for my kids. Make it personal! Then be influential.  Now, does Make it personal! Then be influential.  Now, does this mean I think we need to have it all figured out before we can influence? No!  I simply mean to encourage us to start with ourselves. As we are abiding in Christ, He is able to use us to love others well.  We can love the world by sharing the Gospel and living out the transformation God makes in our lives. And we can love His Church well by serving and connecting with fellow believers. Then we get the privilege and have the responsibility to teach our kids to do the same! This is why our walk with the Lord must be personal first and foremost.  Not sure where to start? I am going through the book of Colossians with two I am going through the book of Colossians with two different groups right now.  Sunday I get to share with teen girls in our discipleship program and Wednesday I get to hang out with a women’s Bible study.  The biggest blessing to me has been getting to sit and hear wisdom spoken by women of all ages.  We need each other no matter how many years before us and how many years are behind us. We benefit from mutual encouragement, mutual affection, and lifting each other up in prayer. The Body of Christ thrives when multigenerational women are walking with the Lord, are yielded to His Spirit, and are encouraging others to do the same. When we live out our relationship with God in a pe When we live out our relationship with God in a personal way then it becomes influential. The first to be influenced are those in our own homes. We can talk about how much we value God's Word and we can show it by letting them see us reading it. They need both our words and actions. We can talk about how to ask for forgiveness and we can demonstrate it when we've messed up. They need both our words and actions. The more personal we make our identity in Christ, our joy in the Gospel, and our faithfulness in prayer, the more we can influence those in our own home to follow Him. #intentionalparenting #intentionaldiscipleship #showandshare #delightanddefend #personalbeforeinfluential

What do you focus on when you study? Bible study What do you focus on when you study? Bible study is meant for transformation. When I focus on these three big ideas I've experienced transformation. I understand about God's character and can worship Him in a more intimate way. I understand who I am in Christ and can praise God for the work that He's done in my life. I learn specific ways to follow Him and I'm doing so am conformed to the image of Christ. I wanted to teach my kids these truths too and this is just part of the EVENT Method, which is how we study the Bible in our home.
